On 10th January 2010, the Ministry of Health commenced construction of the National Heart Center at the Royal Hospital. Funded by the Saud Bahwan Charitable Foundation, this Center will include dedicated facilities for pediatric and adult cardiology and cardiac surgery.
Built as an extension block physically linked to the Royal Hospital, it includes a building of 3 floors to house OPDs for pediatric and adult cardiology and cardiothoracic patients, pediatric and adult non-invasive cardiology laboratories with the whole range of equipment and facilities, 4 wards with a total of 109 beds, 2 wards of 12 beds each for pediatric and adult ICU/PCSU, patients, 4 cardiac cath labs and angio CT, 4 operating theatres, CSSD, pharmacy, conference rooms, duty rooms and other support facilities. The Center, which is expected to cost over 40 million Omani Rials, is expected to be commissioned in mid 2013.
