ACTIVITIES
The CSSD collects reusables from wards and departments and cleans, sterilizes and supplies sterile equipment, instrument and dressing packs to all patient services areas, including the Operation Theatre. It has automated equipment for washing, disinfection, autoclaving, low temperature steam formaldehyde,
distilled water. Quality assurance procedures have been put in place to ensure safety and efficiency at all levels: proper handling of contaminated items, decontamination, proper cleansing, instrument care, checking working condition and sharpness of instruments and replacement of condemned instruments / sterile linen, monitoring the sterilization cycle, use of indicators to measure adequacy of sterilization. A computerized module has been developed for proper inventory control of reusables and consumables processed through the CSSD.
