The above-cited staff are assisted by 27 clerical and support staff, 15 drivers and 12 telephone operators. The dietary and catering section is additionally staffed with 4 dieticians, 6 assistant dieticians and 1 diet clerk.

The housekeeping, catering, laundry and horticulture services are contracted out.

TRANSPORT

The ambulance services are used for patient transport - about 800 patients to different hospitals within Muscat Governorate, 500 inpatients transferred back to hospitals in the interior, 250 patients to the Seeb and Military airports, and about 300 patients picked up from the airports. A full fledged ambulance service, to cope primarily with resuscitation and transport of accident victims and other emergencies, is being set up by the Government separately.

TELEPHONE AND PAGERS

This section sees to the posting of telephone operators, , issue of external and internal pagers, monitoring of telephone bills, liaison with Omantel for additional lines / transfers / disconnection, liaison with Engineering department for repair works.

 The ACCOMMODATION section coordinates allotment and upkeep of residences in the accommodation complex and the lease of villas and apartments for staff residing outside the campus. It also sees to supply and replacement of hard furnishings to staff occupying Government provided accommodation.

The PASSPORT AND TICKETING SECTION maintains custody of passports and follows up on renewal of resident visa of expatriate staff and their dependants. It also processes requests for visas / road permits and grant of annual leave ticket allowance for expatriate staff. This section also makes air travel arrangements for Omani and expatriate staff deputed on offical duty.

GENERAL AND ENGINEERING STORES is responsible for forecasting demand, liaison with the Finance Department for procurement, follow-up with suppliers for supply of materials, receipt of goods, storage and supply of all non-medical items and engineering spares. Annually, it issues about 300 general and 850 spare part requisitions to the Purchase Section and complies with about 3000 general and 1600 spare part indents from various departments and wards. The indenting, documentation, monitoring of stock levels and purchase requesting procedures have been computerized.

 The CATERING SERVICES are contracted out. Meals are supplied free of charge to all inpatients, authorized patient attendants and junior doctors on duty in accordance with a cyclical menu plan which allows for certain individual preferences. The company also runs a staff and a visitors cafeteria where food is served at reduced charge. The dieticians and diet technicians are responsible for the clinical dietetics. To facilitate this, they are assigned to various clinical specialties and wards, interact with the clinicians during grand rounds and participate in their departmental activities, attend on inpatients and outpatients referred to them for diet assessment and counseling services and coordinate with the contractor for supply of therapeutic diets and naso-gastric feeds.
