About 13000 patients are seen each year in Pediatric Emergency. 80% of these cases are medical, while the rest are surgical and trauma. On reporting to the reception, the patients are assessed by the triage nurse to prioritize the urgency of the care based on the seriousness of the case. Non-emergency cases are directed to there respective health centers.

rh_dep_PALSThe Pediatric Emergency unit is actively involved in teaching. Medical students, interns and Oman Medical Specialty Board residents are rotated through the unit.

The Unit conducts a mock cardio-pulmonary resuscitation exercise once every alternate week. It also has protected teaching time on Wednesdays from 0730-0830 am. The Unit plays a leadership role in organizing the pediatric advance life support (PALS) course, sedation course, transport course and advance pediatric life Support (APLS) course, in collaboration with the Continuous Professional Education Dept.
