ACTIVITIES

  • In-patient care and management of patients admitted to the VIP Suite and Special Nursing Ward.
  • VIP clinic management – where VIP’s and their families attend as outpatients or get admitted to SNW / VIP ward.
  • Teaching and training of residents, interns and medical students who are on regular posting from Sultan Qaboos University College of Medicine.
  • Active participation in the academic activities of the Department of Medicine like journal club, clinical meetings, clinical-radiological meetings, mortality reviews and medical audit.
  • Recruitment interviews of doctors for private clinics and for the Ministry of Health.
  • Medical Board cases assessment for pension.
  • Policy making and planning departmental activities.

 Besides the above-mentioned services as listed, the main emphasis of the department is quality patient care for admitted and clinic patients alike.  Patients are seen in totality and not merely as a case presenting as a system trouble.  Patients with all general medical problems are reviewed in consultation with different sub-specialties.

As a part of viewing the patient in totality the lays a great emphasis on preventive medicine and advises patients accordingly on secondary and primary prevention of various preventable diseases including malaria, typhoid and other gastrointestinal infections, kala-azar-leishmaniasis, tuberculosis, trachoma, measles and other respiratory and communicable diseases, sickle cell disease and other haemoglobinopathies.
